Wedding Malls / Shopping Centers

  • I am posting this question four times, and look forward four independent answers. If one of you is able to do a Spanish research (English comments) I would appreciate that! I know a street in Mexico City where many shops specialize in bridal wear and wedding needs. They seem to be highly successful in attracting business together offering variety by independent retailers. Are there other places/streets/malls where wedding related businesses work successfully together anywhere else on this planet? There are endless internet sites specializing on this, but I need to find ?non-virtual? examples. Best from Frankfurt Raus

  • In Istanbul, Fevzi Pasa Street is the "wedding zone". Take Bus 28, 86 or 90 towards Edirnekapi or take taxi direction "Kariye (Chora) Church in Edirnekapi" Walking alternative, is take any LightRail or Metro to Aksaray station, walk towards Aqueduct, turn left on Macar Kardesler street, and keep walking.

  • Dear thorstenrauser-ga, I have found similar streets in Seoul, South Korea (claims to be largest in the world), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, and Istanbul, Turkey. I hope my fellow researchers have not come to the same results! In Korea there is ?Ahyeon-dong Wedding Dress Street? with over 80 wedding dress shops (other sources state 120). "Compared to shops in the Gagnam area, those here on Wedding Dress Street offer quality wedding dresses in a wide variety of designs at low prices. Recently, an increasing number of up-scale wedding shops have opened here, offering more diverse designs and quality materials. The lead-time for rental ranges from a couple of weeks to a month, and for a custom made items, from a month to six weeks. As part of the effort to designate the area as a special zone for shopping and sightseeing, the stores on the street sponsor the annual Ahyeon-dong May Wedding Dress Festival along with other events." http://www.visitseoul.net/jsp/english_new/buy/shop_01_03.jsp?template_id=139&info_id=4020000030&upper=1&onloadset1_num=2&onloadset2_num=201 "Street of Wedding Shops in Ahyeon-dong. Pure White Wedding Dresses for Beautiful Brides - A Place Where Brides Wish to Come. The place to visit with one's heart throbbed with joy. White dresses resembling brides' shapes are in display. Along both sides of the streets of Ahyeon-dong wedding shops in a row, there are about 80 dress shop in business, and because they are well known even to overseas for their offering at inexpensive prices in excellent designs, buyers are visiting from overseas." http://www.mapo.seoul.kr/eng/sub_04/sub_01_01_01.jsp "Ahyeon-dong Wedding Shops More than 120 wedding boutiques line both sides of the main street from Gongdeok-dong Rotary to the entrance of Ewha Woman's University, forming a wedding dress street. A wide array of magnilicent wedding dresses exhibit the elaborate skill and handwork of each boutique are quite appealing to future brides and female passerbys alike who dream of their marriage." http://www.worldcall.co.kr/shopping/Shinch'on.html It even appears in this fiction story. "Around this time, I loved to visit Ahyeon-dong Street. We call it "Wedding Street" because it's filled with shops that sell all kinds of things that are vital for a good Korean wedding. I would hold onto my mother's hand and we'd walk from shop to shop, marveling at the different gowns, cakes and accessories. My mother would squeeze my hand tightly and say, "Someday, you will have a beautiful wedding. And hopefully, we won't have to pay for it!" We would laugh at this joke each time she said it. Yet somehow, I knew (and I think my mother did, too) that I'd never have a wedding. At least not the one my mother envisioned." http://www.ecurrent.com/articles/fpc2001/uragiri.html British Columbia, New Westminster, Columbia Street "New Westminster is known for it?s vast selection of bridal shops, particularly on Columbia Street." http://www.hackwriters.com/10Bestweddingtips.htm "...explore the interesting Downtown streets, filled with the beautiful architecture of heritage buildings, sidewalk cafes, gourmet coffee bars and shopping from art boutiques, gift stores and hobby shops to the funkiest fashions and a niche of bridal shops." http://www.tourismnewwestminster.org/greatervancouvershopping.htm "In the downtown core, restored heritage buildings along Historic Columbia Street are home to several quality bridal boutiques as well as unique shops, restaurants, hotels and a theatre." http://www.city.new-westminster.bc.ca/cityhall/planning/05city_profile/city_profile.htm Istanbul ? these comments are from various people who have visited the city (infuriatingly, I cannot identify the name of the street). "En route to the Suleymanye Mosque, our bus took us down a veritable boulevard of bridal shops. Mannequins in fluffy white gowns, some in hijab, looked out of every window, for blocks. It was a stunning visual, and I made a mental note: If ever I need a wedding dress, I'll come here. Competition in obviously fierce and prices must be excellent." http://www.casbahdance.org/minarets.html "Istanbul amazed us with unique retail organization. Every type of product had it's own "street." There was the wedding dress street, and the underwear street. We christened the plumbing street "Istanbul Home Depot." " With photograph http://www.fullcirc.com/family/turkeytrip/markets/market.htm "On the bus heading to the Chora Church, Lale pointed out the many wedding dress shops in the middle-class part of town we drove through, and told us that 50% of the population in Turkey is under 20." http://tallis.umd.edu/~pfeifer/turkey/journal_06.html I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as soon as I receive it. Thank you answerfinder Search strategy Variations of street road "of wedding shops" "of bridal shops"

  • I guess this is more to do with the traditional cultures... and thus much m ore related to Asian/ African/ Middle Eastern societies. For example in Pakistan, in Karachi... there is not one market for bridal dresses etc... rather many. Lahore is lined up with markets speccialising in this as well.. examples; bano bazar, icchra etc... In Rawalpindi, you can find such shops on the main Murree Road or if you want, you can roam around inner city markets like Qila, Moti Bazar etc. I am sure you will find same (or may be to a much larger scale) in India or Egypt etc.
