I currently have a forum that is running phpbb and I would like to move everything over to vBulletin. I was woundering if I will have any issues when transfering everything over. I am wanting to also install vBSeo.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Also what are your opinions on vBSeo?
Thanks! http://fish.cookiestuffing.me/img/341/k08h1016rrhv/smile.gif
You should read this article here, google has more or less said they have no problem indexing dynamic URL's. And even go as far as saying, your better leaving them alone. As using tools to re-write them to static URL's can have a negative effect - rather than a positive one.
So I would not worry to much about vBulletin SEO (out the box).
Here is the article: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/dynamic-urls-vs-static-urls.html
As a side note, I run a website with static HTML pages. And a while ago I had phpBB3 running also on the same server. I was getting pages indexed faster in Google on the forum, than my static HTML pages where being indexed. So I think the static v's dynamic argument doesn't hold that much water anymore. I've personally already seen proof by running both types of pages, that my dynamic URL's were getting indexed faster from the forum, than my html pages were. Which surprised me!
In short, you don't need vBSEO for vBulletin.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Yea I know a lot about SEO so I realize that you can't just setup vbSEO and expect to get TONS of traffic.
I hope you received enough information to make a choice to purchase a license for vBulletin. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. We're looking forward having you as a customer.
vBSEO appears to be a solid plugin used by a lot of people without too many complaints. But we can not recommend third party, unofficial and unsupported addons.
That said, we have impex which is a tool we wrote and give for free to our customers to help convert from phpbb to vbulletin.

Here's a list of the scripts we have, and phpbb's supported versions and what is imported.
vBSEO is not some magical plugin that is going to transform your forums in to an indexed animal. It takes time, alot of understanding and making the right configurations based on your forum.
Also vBSEO is MUCH more then about re-writting dynamic to static URLs.
My suggestion is to read as much as you can about SEO and make an informed decision.
Google was talking about using the dynamic session hash that's temporary, to pretend to be a static part of the url. That's a bit different.
Google has no problem if you have unique content reachable from either showthread.php or from thread-title/
But they dont want showthread.php?s=o3o4hfr3u9hf to show as thread/o3o4hfr3u9hf/thread-title/
because if you have 50 session hashes, it kinda looks like 50 unique static urls. Which it is not.
I hope that explains it.
Can vB be used as a Q/A kind of software rather than a forum?
