Sorting by any column in the network activity window stopped working as of Outpost 2008 release 6.0.2284.253.0485. This used to work in the previous version. This is a bug I'd have never noticed if there were filtering functionality (by process), but now it's a PITA.
The lack of sorting goes across all of the views in the main window. As Manny said, numeric columns sort, but alpha columns won't sort. This sorting USED to work in 6.0. I've always sorted by process name and connections mainly. Some of the views, like Process Activity are totally unusable now.
That does sound right. I didn't have uptime showing but it looks like it can sort any numerical column whereas if you sort on a alpha-numerical column it will use uptime to sort. I don't remember if OP4 was any different but probably uptime is a good one to use.
Do you find much use for sorting this activity?
Well, if sorting used to work in previous versions of 6 then perhaps this is a bug that crept in. If so, then I suggest reporting it so it can be fixed: 1
Upon further inspection I noticed that sorting does indeed work for columns:
- local port
- remote port
- bytes sent
- bytes received
but for columns:
- process name:process id
- direction, protocol
- local address
- remote address
- allow/block reason
- uptime
it does nothing except move the grouped entries from top to bottom and vice versa. The row order seems to be frozen by uptime (descending).
I rarely sort my network activity but I just tried with 2284 and it functioned. I was able to sort by any column heading. It does seem to be a little slow in reacting though. Does it do nothing for you?
Technically the uptime desc. sort is equivalent to no sort at all. Newer connections (smaller uptime) are added to the bottom of the list as they arrive.
I usually only sort by process name (if at all), and only if I'm curious about one single application's network traffic. It's easier to spot all connections. In OP4 I could do that by grouping the network traffic by application, so I didn't really care about sorting at all, but there's no similar solution in OP6 (yet?). I'm 100% certain though that sorting was working fine for me as of v6.0.2225.
I don't use sort much either. After checking it out I found that same results. I also used sorting occasionally in OP4 for the same reasons as Gregorius. I too like the grouping in the old OP4. Sure hope there are some major improvements in this area in future releases.
Unfortunately, this is another area with less functionality but hopefully maybe it'll be making a reappearance. I also liked the way you could group traffic in OP4.
I could use some help again...
