  • I have been using Outpost Firewall V4 and Ad-Aware for quite some time now, and just recently, I have been unable to update my Ad-Aware unless I turn off my firewall. Can someone advise me on the steps to make the two applications get along?

  • A quick perusal of the allowed applications showed the culprit, and I have now listed the Ad-Aware service as trusted. The updates seem to work fine now. Thanks to all who responded.:o

  • AAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH.
If I ever learn how to do computing, it will have to be in another lifetime.
I removed the items in trusted apps, and the Ad-Aware worked right. Crossed fingers. Thanks.

    Hello jevernew,

When you deleted the rule for Ad-aware, did you let Outpost create a new rule via Rules Wizard? Did it work at that point? This would have placed the program into the "Partially Allowed Apps" list. There should never be any applications located in the "Trusted Apps" list at any time, except when testing.

  • Sorry about the incomplete post. I am using the newest Ad-Aware 2007 free program, on WinXP Pro SP2/3, connecting thru a linksys router, linksys cable moden to the internet. After looking at the logs, and reading the responses, it is very apparent that I don't have a clue what I am looking at. I have basically just been trusting the aplication to protect the system with its presets. I switched to Agnitum after Norton bought out Sygate, and refused to update it. Norton products are way too bloated for me.
Thanks for the responses. Now I have to either go to school and learn this or stop using it.

  • One other thing to check is which version of AdAware you use, as recently Lavasoft stopped providing updates for the SE version and only support the AdAware 2007 line.

In other words, it may not be the firewall that is blocking.

  • Maybe you could post the logs to these forums.
Also you should have a look at your Outpost rules, OP might be blocking it because you clicked "deny" by accident.

  • We can help but only if you tell us what is being blocked from your logs. 1

Alternatively, you can always delete your Ad-Aware rules and recreate them using the Wizard mode.
