  • How many bars/pubs are there in America? How many visits did these bars/pubs get in 2004? Please credit a reputable source. (eg There are 250,000 bars/pubs in America which in 2004, had over 2 billion visits. Source: America Beverage Association)

  • Hello stepp-ga, Thanks for clarifying what you need. I can get you some reasonable and up-to-date data for the numbers of bars and the numbers of customers, but it takes a bit of doing to get them. In brief, I can combine some very authoritative data, with some very reasonable estimates, to get at the current numbers. The authoritative data that is available is this: Number of bars in the US: --in 2002: 48,855 --in 1997: 52,825 Total sales in bars: --in 2005: $15 billion (projected, based on preliminary 2005 data) --in 2002: $14.99 billion Now for the estimating part. Assuming (based on my personal experience) that an average customer spends $15 per visit , then there were $15 billion / $15 = 1 billion customers in bars per year. It's also reasonable to assume that there are still about 48,855 (give or take 500) bars in the US in 2005, since (a) total sales are almost identical to the 2002 data and (b) the numer of bars in the country does not seem to change rapidly from year to year. In summary, for 2005: 48,855 bars in the US, serving about 1 billion customers If those numbers meet you needs, let me know, and I'll be happy to post the information as an answer to your question, along with the sources of information used to generate the numbers. Cheers! pafalafa-ga

  • stepp-ga, I am going to unlock this question so that other researchers can take a crack at it as well. In all honestly, I don't think you are likely to find more recent data on drinking and spending habits than the figures I cited. However, maybe there are some surprised in store...! I certainly understand both the need and the desire to cite the most credible statistics available, However, it is also worth noting that it's fairly common practice -- in marketing plans and elsewhere -- to make one's best and most reasonable estimate when the needed statistics are simply not otherwise available. Best of luck with your project. pafalafa-ga

  • What I have so far is this - According to the U.S. Department of Labor, drinking places such as bars, pubs, nightclubs and taverns, comprise about 11 percent (52,690) of America?s 479,000 food and drink establishments. What I need is the 2004 number + an authorative number of the total visits - although the assumptions of circa $15 per visit leading to an assumption of 1 billion conbsumers might be close - I can't use that in my research as it is not a reputable source. Stepp-ga

  • I have found the number of drinking places for alcoholic beverages in the United States, along with total revenue, for 2002. It comes from a reputable source. Is this information sufficient? If so, I would be happy to post it as an answer.

  • As wellas the number of drinking places, I need the total NUMBER of visits per annum to drinking places rather than revenue as I am trying to calculate the "Cost per Thousand" (CPM) of an advertising model. I really want this info for 2004 - but 2003 would be ok. Not earlier. Stepp-ga
