advice about scenes

  • i've just read in the flash help that it is not advisable to use scenes, for many reasons.however i have a project i'm working on that has a tree structure, a branch that subdivides into more branches, and so on.i want to use a scene for every node of the the structure, and i would come out with at least 50 scenes or so. have you had any problems working with such a number of scenes???

on the other hand, they recommend using movie clips, but this would result in monstruous movie clips, maybe 40 inside one another. any problems with these?? what's your experience in dealing with such projects???

by now it's not intended to be in a web page, it's just a presentation.

    any experiences or suggestions???

  • you load swfs into a main application when they are needed, it is the same idea as creating movieclips (or even scenes) to hold each section, but with multiple files you can modify things fairly easily.

some reasons that i don't use scenes:
    - If you are having sound on your site, scenes don't really carry that over from one scene to the next.
    - Scenes are hard to navigate through... they might seem easy at first but just think of coming back to this application in a month and getting totally lost.
    - Scenes are harder to maintain and aren't as clearly structured and organized as are clips or separate swfs.

  • OK, but how do i load swfs into a master swf??? i suppose it's with action script, what's that command?? load movie??? can you please post an example of that script?????? please!!!

  • You make 1 master swf and then have a container inside it that you load other swfs into.

I use scenes to seperate my intro animation and preloader from my main site functionalities. I don't have a problem with it, but I am also only using 2 scenes.

  • Rather make separate swfs than multiple scenes. That's how I've done presentations with Flash.

  • it's a good idea but...how can i make a single presentation with that?? how can i jump from a swf file to the other, in a single uninterrupted presentation??? remember thet i have to go back in the structure.

  • there are a couple tutorials here. this one might work out

    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx2004/transitions.htm

i would suggest playing around a little with the tutorials here. They are a really good starting point

  • I could use some help again...
